How to reverse audio online

By Sodaphonic · Updated

Play a sound backwards with Sodaphonic. Reverse a selection or a whole recording, preview the effect, and export MP3 or WAV.

Steps

  1. Choose File → Open in the editor and select your audio file.

  2. Drag across the waveform to select a sound. For the whole file, choose Edit → Select all.

  3. Choose Effects → Reverse, then play the result.

  4. Use Edit → Undo to compare with the original, or reverse the same selection again to restore its direction.

  5. Choose File → Export to save the result as MP3 or WAV.

Tips and examples

A short percussive sound starts loudly and decays. Reversing it creates a sound that builds towards a sudden stop. Try it with the downloadable tone example in the classroom project guide.

Reversing preserves duration. To change speed or duration, use Faster, Slower, or Time-stretch instead.
